Public land here is rarely less than one quarter section (160 acres) and is often 640 acres in size. State and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land is open to the public. The purple blots on the map are state lands. The yellow areas are BLM. The lake you see in the upper left of the map is the tip of Fort Peck Reservoir.
The Block Management program implemented by Fish, Wildlife and Parks opens some of the private land for hunting. None of the land in our area is heavily hunted.
Notice the little purple blots...these are parcels of public land.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks as well as Montana Tourism does a superb job of informing everyone of the hunting and fishing opportunities throughout Montana. Wildlife and Parks has a navigation button for planning a trip. When you use that you can choose what district you would like to visit. The planner will then tell you what is available in that area. These sites can tell you everything you ever wanted to know and more!!! The following links will help you get started.
Our area is not far from the North Dakota border so many of the hunting and fishing opportunities there are easily accessible from here. I included a link here to ND Game and Fish
